DIESEL MECHANIC (ENTRY LEVEL)

Under direct supervision, perform routine servicing, mechanical repairs and maintenance to company vehicles and equipment.

Perform general mechanical overhaul and repair work on trucks, tractors, loaders, automobiles and other related types of vehicles and equipment. This position performs additional related work as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs general mechanical overhaul and repair work on trucks, tractors, loaders, automobiles and other related types of vehicles and equipment.
  2. Will be trained on repairs on brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems on all types of equipment.
  3. Will be trained on, adjustments, and replacing components and related parts including valves, pistons, main bearing assemblies, and cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems.
  4. Will be taught repairs and overhauls transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies, and ignition systems.
  5. Inspect, repairs, and reassembles air compressors, pumps, and related equipment; repairs, rebuilds, and install hydraulic jacks, pumps, cylinders, and controls.
  6. Assists senior level mechanics with heavy repair work.
  7. Welds and modifies equipment and fabricates parts as needed or as directed.
  8. Completes paperwork associated with repairing equipment and keeps accurate records/computer documents to meet all DOT requirements and DVC standards.
  9. Makes road calls to service-disabled vehicles a will be trained on trouble shooting.
  10. Ensures that all equipment released to the field meets or exceeds DOT standards.
  11. Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  12. Keeps shop clean and organized to promote professionalism, safety, and efficiency.
  13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  14. This is a safety sensitive position.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. 1+ year general automotive experience
  3. Basic computer skills
  4. Welding/fabrication skills
  5. Ability to read and comprehend schematics, operation, service and manuals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Accreditation from mechanics or trade school
  2. ASE certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Climb into, out and on top of equipment.
  2. Lift, carry and push/pull heavy items and/or equipment.
  3. Ability to lift to 75 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The essential functions of this job are performed in both a shop environment and outside in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.  Daily, the essential functions of the job require incumbents to climb ladders, stoop, crouch, stand and occasionally crawl into confined spaces.  Incumbents are exposed to intermittent loud noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, gases smoke, grease, oils, cement powder and chemicals.
